Madonna on Youtube: her 30 most popular videos - 2020 Update

Welcome back on Blogger!
Today we are going to discuss Madonna's YouTube channel and, in particular, her 30 biggest videos on the platform as of now.
Throughout 2020 HD remasters and official remixes were uploaded. Here's hoping the trend continues, as this stuff is a joy for the fans and also increases Madonna's profile on YouTube.
Let's delve into this article together!

Disclaimer: As usual, since the infamous double uploads are unlisted, I am going to exclude them from this top 30.
Also, I will treat this list as a proper chart this time, highlighting the rises and the drops compared to last year and the eventual new entries.

POSITIONS 30-21

30 (new) Don't Tell Me 26,5 million views
29 (=) Music 27,5 million views
28 (-2) Borderline 30,1 million views
27 (-2) Express Yourself  30,1 million views
26 (-3) Justify My Love 30,5 million views
25 (-7) Living For Love 35,6 million views
24 (+4) Crazy For You 36,2 million views
23 (-2) True Blue 37 million views
22 (+5) Into The Groove 38,9 million views
21 (-2) Open Your Heart 39 million views

Let's start with a new entry, Don't Tell Me, which more than doubled its views compared to 2019, gaining 6,5 million. Music also increased its profile, gaining 5,7 million views compared to the 4 million it did in 2019.
Two classics from the 1980s, Borderline and Express Yourself had their best year yet, gaining 6,6 and 6,2 million views respectively.
Justify My Love had its worst year in a decade, with a gain of just 2 million views. Both the song and the video need to be re-introduced to the masses and I hope the upcoming biopic will do that.
Mild drop for Living for Love, which gained 1,3 million views compared to the 1,6 million it did in 2019.
One of the greatest gainers of 2020, Crazy For You comes next with an increase of 13,4 million views (it did 9,6 million in 2019). True Blue had its healthiest year since 2017, gaining over 7 million views. The winner of this section is Into The Groove which is destined to rise again in 2021. It gained 15,8 million views in 2020, doubling its figure from 2019 (7,5 million).
Just outside of the top 20, we have Open Your Heart, which did 5,9 million views throughout 2020, a decent increase compared to the 4,3 million from 2019.

POSITIONS 20-11

20 (+2) The Power of Good-Bye 40,7 million views
19 (-2) Ghosttown  40,8 million views
18 (+2) Vogue MTV VMAs  41 million views
17 (+7) Sorry  43,5 million views
16 (-1) Medellin  49,4 million views
15 (-2) Celebration  51,9 million views
14 (-2) Girl Gone Wild  59,5 million views
13 (+3) Material Girl  65 million views
12 (-1) Live to Tell 66,4 million views
11 (-3) Give Me All Your Luvin' 78,1 million views

At number 20 we have The Power of Good-Bye. It had an amazing year, gaining 11,7 million views compared to the already good 9 million from 2019.
Stable figures for Ghosttown, which attained 2,9 million views (it got 3,1 million last year).
The biggest live performance video on Madonna's YouTube channel, Vogue (MTV VMAs) increased its profile nicely with a gain of 9,3 million views compared to the 6,7 million from 2019.
Sorry was one of the big winners in 2020, getting 16 million views (surprisingly, it did just 4 million views in 2019).
Massive drop for Medellin, Madonna's most recent lead single, which attained just 6,9 million views in 2020 (it was viewed 43 million times in 2019).
Celebration (still in desperate need for a HQ remaster) had its best year since 2017, getting 3,6 million views.
Girl Gone Wild comes in at number 14 with its greatest year since 2012. It gained 8,6 million views compared to the 6 million from 2019.
After a great but not exceptional 2019 (at least for its potential) Material Girl had its best year yet with a gain of 24 million views. Its next goal is the 70 million mark, which it is set to reach in March.
Finally free from that infamous fan upload that was stealing its views, Live to Tell doubled its views compared to 2019, attaining 12,3 million.
Closing this section we have Give Me All Your Luvin', for the first time since 2012 outside of the top 10. It had its best year since 2015, getting over 3,4 million views.

Positions 10-1

10 (-1) Give It 2 Me 79,7 million views
9 (+5) Frozen 81 million views
8 (+2) Like a Virgin 84,9 million views
7 (=) Papa Don't Preach 128,2 million views
6 (=) 4 Minutes 129 million views
5 (-1Vogue 131,8 million views
4 (+1) Like a Prayer 149,9 million views
3 (=) Hung Up 286,9 million views
2 (-1) Bitch I'm Madonna 329,1 million views
1 (+1) La Isla Bonita 386 million views

At number 10 we have Give It 2 Me in what probably is its last year in the top 10. It got 6,2 million views throughout 2020, a nice increase compared to the 5,2 million from 2019.
Frozen finally made it to this section at number 9, with an excellent gain of 33 million views (it got 22 million in 2019).
At number 8 we encounter Like a Virgin. One of Madonna's signature songs and videos, it attained 15,7 million views in 2020, its best yearly figure yet.
Stable at number 7 and 6, we have Papa Don't Preach and 4 Minutes. They had an excellent year, both attaining 36 million views.
The top 5 is here. Vogue had its best year ever, getting over 24 million views compared to the 17,7 million it got in 2019.
Drastically (and finally, I may add) increasing its profile on Madonna's YouTube channel, Like a Prayer comes in at number 4 with a yearly gain of 56 million views. It is set to reach 200 million views this year.
Showing up at number 3, Hung Up (in all its HD glory) is destined to rise to number two at some point in 2021. It had its healthiest year, gaining 72 million views and doubling its yearly figure from 2019.
Dropping at number two we have the original queen of streaming, Bitch I'm Madonna. 2020 was another great year for it, as it attained 19 million views (it got 24 million in 2019).
Finally, rising at number 1 we have not only the biggest video on Madonna's channel but also one of the top 500 most popular videos on YouTube throughout 2020: La Isla Bonita. Increasing its views for the third year in a row, it gained 149 million views in 2020. It is set to reach 400 million views this month and hopefully 500 million this year.

Music, movies, books to revisit during quarantine (Madonna Edition).

(Photo by Richard Corman, 1983) Welcome back on Blogger fans!  It's been a while since my last article and things have sadly changed since then. Covid-19 has impacted our lives deeply and I hope all of you are okay.  Since we have to stay at home, what better way to spend our time with our favorite Diva?  Here is a list of Madonna-related stuff that I think we should all revisit. Let's get into this article!  Madonna: Like an Icon  Originally published in 2007 by music critic Lucy O'Brien, this book is always a nice read as it not only chronicles the life and career of Madonna but also tells about O'Brien's experience as a fan, what she thought of Madonna initially and what made her change her mind for the best.  This book keeps on getting updated as Madonna's life and career progresses and a new edition is apparently coming this year. I highly recommend it. Bedtime Stories   One of Madonna's most underrated and over

Madonna and Old Hollywood: her finest inspiration.

(Madonna photographed by Steven Meisel, 1991) Welcome back on Blogger! Today I want to talk about one of Madonna's biggest inspirations: old Hollywood. I have always loved classic stars and movies myself so I am very happy to share this article with you. Let's get into it! (Madonna on the set of the Material Girl  music video) Madonna has often expressed admiration for legendary pop figures, not only actors and actresses but also films, with specific attention to the characters and their main trait, may it be wit, melancholia, romance, sensuality or ambiguity. Their style, beauty and overall uniqueness have been honored by Madonna through her music videos, performances and outfits. In particular, our Diva is great at giving new life to them, she is able to re-invent them in a new context, thus making them timeless. Marilyn Monroe is probably Madonna's biggest inspiration, aesthetically speaking. She has paid tribute to the blonde bombs

Like a Prayer (1989) - Album Review

Welcome back on Blogger! The day has finally arrived.  Today we are going to discuss Madonna's fourth studio album Like a Prayer, universally recognized as one of the best albums of its decade and of all time.  Let's delve into this masterpiece together!  Released on March 21, 1989, Like a Prayer sees Madonna at her most intimate and confessional, dealing with domestic violence, her mother's death, her complicated relationship with her father, the importance of family and female empowerment, all connected by an apparently shadowy but omnipresent leitmotiv: her Catholic upbringing .  " The theme of Catholicism runs rampant. It's me struggling with the mystery and magic that surrounds it. My own Catholicism is in constant upheaval  [...] Because in Catholicism you are a born sinner and you're a sinner all your life. No matter how you try to get away from it, the sin is within you all the time. It was this fear that haunted me; it taunted and pained me ever
