10 superlative gems by Prince

Welcome back on Blogger!  It has been some time, I know, but I am back and today I am going to talk about my other icon: Prince.  He died 5 years ago today,  and since he's always been more than just the hits, I thought it would have been great to honor his talent by showcasing what I think are some of his most underrated, but still brilliant, songs.                                                                                                                                              I hope you enjoy this article, this is actually the first time I write about Prince, be easy on me.              Let's go! Dark ( Come, 1994) From Prince's fifteenth studio album " Come " (curiously released on Madonna's 36th birthday), " Dark"  is a soul/gospel slow-jam about a heartbreak(er). Prince shares his frustration about this woman, who used him for sex and money and left him when he needed her the most: " Inside lookin' out my window / I don'

Like a Prayer (1989) - Album Review

Welcome back on Blogger! The day has finally arrived.  Today we are going to discuss Madonna's fourth studio album Like a Prayer, universally recognized as one of the best albums of its decade and of all time.  Let's delve into this masterpiece together!  Released on March 21, 1989, Like a Prayer sees Madonna at her most intimate and confessional, dealing with domestic violence, her mother's death, her complicated relationship with her father, the importance of family and female empowerment, all connected by an apparently shadowy but omnipresent leitmotiv: her Catholic upbringing .  " The theme of Catholicism runs rampant. It's me struggling with the mystery and magic that surrounds it. My own Catholicism is in constant upheaval  [...] Because in Catholicism you are a born sinner and you're a sinner all your life. No matter how you try to get away from it, the sin is within you all the time. It was this fear that haunted me; it taunted and pained me ever

Madonna is directing her own biopic! Everything we know so far.

Welcome back on Blogger,  During a livestream on Instagram, Madonna has finally confirmed she is working on her own biopic! Let's discuss this fantastic news together!  BACKGROUND In 2017, Universal announced that a biopic about Madonna supposedly titled " Blond Ambition" was in the works. The movie would have dealt with our Diva's rise to fame and early successes.  Following the announcement, Madonna tried to boycott the movie as the latter would have sold lies about her own life to the world: " Nobody knows what I know and what I have seen. Only I can tell my story. Anyone else who tries it is a charlatan and a fool. Looking for instant gratification without doing the work. This is a disease in our society".  Nothing has been said about Blond Ambition since.  WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR But let's get back to Madonna's own biopic. As I told you earlier, during a livestream Madonna shared some details about the movie: The screenplay will be co-written wit

Madonna and Old Hollywood: her finest inspiration.

(Madonna photographed by Steven Meisel, 1991) Welcome back on Blogger! Today I want to talk about one of Madonna's biggest inspirations: old Hollywood. I have always loved classic stars and movies myself so I am very happy to share this article with you. Let's get into it! (Madonna on the set of the Material Girl  music video) Madonna has often expressed admiration for legendary pop figures, not only actors and actresses but also films, with specific attention to the characters and their main trait, may it be wit, melancholia, romance, sensuality or ambiguity. Their style, beauty and overall uniqueness have been honored by Madonna through her music videos, performances and outfits. In particular, our Diva is great at giving new life to them, she is able to re-invent them in a new context, thus making them timeless. Marilyn Monroe is probably Madonna's biggest inspiration, aesthetically speaking. She has paid tribute to the blonde bombs

A beginner's guide to Madonna.

Welcome back on Blogger! Want to get into Madonna but feel overwhelmed when you look at her discography? Don't worry, I'll try my best to introduce you to our favorite pop queen. Let's get into this article! THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION Released in 1990, this iconic Greatest Hits compilation is the perfect introduction to Madonna, as it features her major hits from the 1980's and three of her biggest hits from the 1990's. This was my first Madonna album so I can't recommend it enough.  The only downside is that the songs are slightly remixed (minus Justify My Love and Rescue Me ) so if you want the original versions you'll  have to listen to the studio albums.  But hey, that is what you'll do eventually, feel free to wear this album out first.  The 1980's are Madonna's most accessible decade, full of big choruses and killer melodies, you're in for a treat. SOMETHING TO REMEMBER Some of Madonna's biggest
