A beginner's guide to Madonna.

Welcome back on Blogger!
Want to get into Madonna but feel overwhelmed when you look at her discography?
Don't worry, I'll try my best to introduce you to our favorite pop queen.
Let's get into this article!

THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION

Released in 1990, this iconic Greatest Hits compilation is the perfect introduction to Madonna, as it features her major hits from the 1980's and three of her biggest hits from the 1990's.
This was my first Madonna album so I can't recommend it enough.
The only downside is that the songs are slightly remixed (minus Justify My Love and Rescue Me) so if you want the original versions you'll  have to listen to the studio albums.
But hey, that is what you'll do eventually, feel free to wear this album out first.
The 1980's are Madonna's most accessible decade, full of big choruses and killer melodies, you're in for a treat.

SOMETHING TO REMEMBER

Some of Madonna's biggest hits are actually ballads and that is the side of her a lot of fans end up loving the most, me included.
This 1995 compilations features her best love songs and ballads up to that point, three new songs (You'll See, One More Chance, I Want You) and some amazing deep cuts (Something to Remember, Forbidden Love).
Since The Immaculate Collection includes mostly upbeat songs, this album is its perfect companion, they both introduce the listener to two different sides of Madonna.

WHERE TO START WITH THE STUDIO ALBUMS?

This is the big question.
I usually recommend to start from.....the start!
Listening to Madonna's albums in chronological order makes you understand her evolution as an artist.
A suggestion I would like to make, especially to those that find Madonna's discography too broad, is this: take your time with each album.
Experience one era at a time, do not rush through them. Listen to the album multiple times, watch the music videos, the interviews, the live performances, then proceed to the next era.
You should't have problems starting from her 1980's albums, that kind of sound is extremely popular at the moment.
If you want to start with more modern albums though, I would definitely suggest Confessions On A Dance Floor, Rebel Heart and Music. Those are usually the 21st century albums new listeners warm up the most to.

INTERVIEWS

Interviews are a big part of Madonna's legacy and they can help new fans understand her artistry and persona better, for example how she deals with controversies, the causes she supports, her biographical background.
I am going to list some classic interviews here:

MTV Interview, 1984
Nightline Interview, 1990
BBC Radio 1 with Simon Bates, 1986
MTV Dinner With Madonna, 1991
Primetime Interview, 1995
Partita Doppia Interview, 1993
Interview with Jonathan Ross, 1992

Some recent, amazing ones:

SiriusXM Interview with Larry Flick, 2015
Howard Stern Interview, 2015
Universal Music, 2015
Complex Magazine, 2015
TODAY Interview, 2019

ENJOY YOUR JOURNEY

Madonna fans can be toxic sometimes, especially those restricted elites on online forums.
Form your own opinions, enjoy Madonna on your own at first and who knows? Maybe one day you'll create a community like I did! There's not enough Madonna communities on social media so new ones are always welcome!
And if you have an unpopular opinion, do not be afraid to state it. I have plenty of those.
Express yourself don't repress yourself.

Music, movies, books to revisit during quarantine (Madonna Edition).

(Photo by Richard Corman, 1983) Welcome back on Blogger fans!  It's been a while since my last article and things have sadly changed since then. Covid-19 has impacted our lives deeply and I hope all of you are okay.  Since we have to stay at home, what better way to spend our time with our favorite Diva?  Here is a list of Madonna-related stuff that I think we should all revisit. Let's get into this article!  Madonna: Like an Icon  Originally published in 2007 by music critic Lucy O'Brien, this book is always a nice read as it not only chronicles the life and career of Madonna but also tells about O'Brien's experience as a fan, what she thought of Madonna initially and what made her change her mind for the best.  This book keeps on getting updated as Madonna's life and career progresses and a new edition is apparently coming this year. I highly recommend it. Bedtime Stories   One of Madonna's most underrated and over

Madonna and Old Hollywood: her finest inspiration.

(Madonna photographed by Steven Meisel, 1991) Welcome back on Blogger! Today I want to talk about one of Madonna's biggest inspirations: old Hollywood. I have always loved classic stars and movies myself so I am very happy to share this article with you. Let's get into it! (Madonna on the set of the Material Girl  music video) Madonna has often expressed admiration for legendary pop figures, not only actors and actresses but also films, with specific attention to the characters and their main trait, may it be wit, melancholia, romance, sensuality or ambiguity. Their style, beauty and overall uniqueness have been honored by Madonna through her music videos, performances and outfits. In particular, our Diva is great at giving new life to them, she is able to re-invent them in a new context, thus making them timeless. Marilyn Monroe is probably Madonna's biggest inspiration, aesthetically speaking. She has paid tribute to the blonde bombs

Like a Prayer (1989) - Album Review

Welcome back on Blogger! The day has finally arrived.  Today we are going to discuss Madonna's fourth studio album Like a Prayer, universally recognized as one of the best albums of its decade and of all time.  Let's delve into this masterpiece together!  Released on March 21, 1989, Like a Prayer sees Madonna at her most intimate and confessional, dealing with domestic violence, her mother's death, her complicated relationship with her father, the importance of family and female empowerment, all connected by an apparently shadowy but omnipresent leitmotiv: her Catholic upbringing .  " The theme of Catholicism runs rampant. It's me struggling with the mystery and magic that surrounds it. My own Catholicism is in constant upheaval  [...] Because in Catholicism you are a born sinner and you're a sinner all your life. No matter how you try to get away from it, the sin is within you all the time. It was this fear that haunted me; it taunted and pained me ever
