The Look of Madonna - My Journey

How I became a Madonna fan, what it was like growing up with her music and what the blog will be about.

Welcome on Blogger fans!

First of all, I thank you all for the love and support you keep on giving me and The Look of Madonna, it means a lot to be able to promote and share my thoughts with you all about our favorite Diva.
I'd like to start this new "blogging" adventure by talking about my Madonna experience and how I became a fan in the first place.
It all started in 2005, I was 11 years old and Madonna was everywhere with her brand new single Hung Up. I remember being intrigued and impressed by the star power of that young woman (yes, I thought she was in her 20's) dressed in a pink leotard, dancing around in a ballet studio. She exuded confidence, sexiness, energy and independence. I used to wait for the video to come up on TV so I could watch her again.
The name Madonna was familiar but I never really cared up to that point to check for that woman, I wasn't even that interested in music at the time. Then came Sorry, Jump, Get Together, which were big hits here and I started to pay more attention to her and music in general, as by waiting for her videos to come up on TV I was exposed to many other artists.
As huge as the Confessions era was, it was only the beginning for me. I was a fan but unconsciously. A CD of mine which casually had a song called Material Girl by someone named Madonna on it caught my attention....was it the same woman? Her voice sounded different, the song itself was so different from her recent singles....but I completely loved it, it was catchy, happy and ironic.
My mother said to me that Material Girl was one of Madonna's biggest 80's hits and that she was the same woman who sang Hung Up.
I was shocked.
The 80's? Are you kidding me? That woman is in her late 40's? How?

After that I realised one thing:
I had officially become a fan of her. I had to know more about this Madonna girl, she had been releasing hits since the 80's for God's sake! That's over 20 years (at the time)! "When will your Britneys, Beyonces and Rihannas my dear classmates??" I thought.
From that point (it was around 2007), my journey started. I started to delve into Madonna's discography....and the rest is history.
Along the way I learned that Madonna isn't a unanimously loved figure, she is polarizing, she is controversial, she is provocative but only because she is making history with her art, her statements, her messages people aren't ready for.
Many times I have been laughed at for being a Madonna fan but that never stopped me. Madonna was there when not even the love of my parents could help me. Her music was always there, it is always here.
Strength is her most inspiring trait to me and I always try my best to be strong like her, as life is, sometimes, an unapologetic bitch

Are you still there fans? Don't worry, I'll stop with the melodrama now.

In 2010, at 16 years old, I created The Look of Madonna, without knowing that it would, one day, get so big. I'm very proud of the page as it's the result of hard work and dedication.
Now, after creating a Facebook group and an Instagram account for the page (that I'd love you to join/follow) I now want to expand the brand even more with a blog.
This blog will be mostly about Madonna. I'm going to share my thoughts, review her albums, videos, movies, anything Madonna related and, of course, share news and anticipate her upcoming new album.
I also want you to know that I am a music loon, I love dozens and dozens of artists, especially Madonna's peers, so expect many reviews of albums by other artists as well. It may sound strange to you but knowing other artists, especially, again, her peers, has made me understand Madonna's music better. The woman has an immense musical knowledge and we as fan of hers should be cultured as well. It's always been about the music after all.

That's it for now....see you with my official first article!

Music, movies, books to revisit during quarantine (Madonna Edition).

(Photo by Richard Corman, 1983) Welcome back on Blogger fans!  It's been a while since my last article and things have sadly changed since then. Covid-19 has impacted our lives deeply and I hope all of you are okay.  Since we have to stay at home, what better way to spend our time with our favorite Diva?  Here is a list of Madonna-related stuff that I think we should all revisit. Let's get into this article!  Madonna: Like an Icon  Originally published in 2007 by music critic Lucy O'Brien, this book is always a nice read as it not only chronicles the life and career of Madonna but also tells about O'Brien's experience as a fan, what she thought of Madonna initially and what made her change her mind for the best.  This book keeps on getting updated as Madonna's life and career progresses and a new edition is apparently coming this year. I highly recommend it. Bedtime Stories   One of Madonna's most underrated and over

Madonna and Old Hollywood: her finest inspiration.

(Madonna photographed by Steven Meisel, 1991) Welcome back on Blogger! Today I want to talk about one of Madonna's biggest inspirations: old Hollywood. I have always loved classic stars and movies myself so I am very happy to share this article with you. Let's get into it! (Madonna on the set of the Material Girl  music video) Madonna has often expressed admiration for legendary pop figures, not only actors and actresses but also films, with specific attention to the characters and their main trait, may it be wit, melancholia, romance, sensuality or ambiguity. Their style, beauty and overall uniqueness have been honored by Madonna through her music videos, performances and outfits. In particular, our Diva is great at giving new life to them, she is able to re-invent them in a new context, thus making them timeless. Marilyn Monroe is probably Madonna's biggest inspiration, aesthetically speaking. She has paid tribute to the blonde bombs

Like a Prayer (1989) - Album Review

Welcome back on Blogger! The day has finally arrived.  Today we are going to discuss Madonna's fourth studio album Like a Prayer, universally recognized as one of the best albums of its decade and of all time.  Let's delve into this masterpiece together!  Released on March 21, 1989, Like a Prayer sees Madonna at her most intimate and confessional, dealing with domestic violence, her mother's death, her complicated relationship with her father, the importance of family and female empowerment, all connected by an apparently shadowy but omnipresent leitmotiv: her Catholic upbringing .  " The theme of Catholicism runs rampant. It's me struggling with the mystery and magic that surrounds it. My own Catholicism is in constant upheaval  [...] Because in Catholicism you are a born sinner and you're a sinner all your life. No matter how you try to get away from it, the sin is within you all the time. It was this fear that haunted me; it taunted and pained me ever
