Welcome back on Blogger fans!
It's been a while since my last article and things have sadly changed since then.
Covid-19 has impacted our lives deeply and I hope all of you are okay.
Since we have to stay at home, what better way to spend our time with our favorite Diva?
Here is a list of Madonna-related stuff that I think we should all revisit.
Let's get into this article!
Madonna: Like an Icon
Originally published in 2007 by music critic Lucy O'Brien, this book is always a nice read as it not only chronicles the life and career of Madonna but also tells about O'Brien's experience as a fan, what she thought of Madonna initially and what made her change her mind for the best.
This book keeps on getting updated as Madonna's life and career progresses and a new edition is apparently coming this year. I highly recommend it.
Bedtime Stories
One of Madonna's most underrated and overlooked albums, Bedtime Stories is a sensual, melancholic and relaxing experience. Not only it features four of Madonna's greatest singles (Secret, Take a Bow, Bedtime Story, Human Nature) but also some killer album tracks like the experimental Sanctuary, the uplifting Survival, the intimate Inside of Me and Love Tried To Welcome Me and the romantic Forbidden Love.
One of my favorite records by Madonna.
Dick Tracy
We all love Desperately Seeking Susan, Evita, Truth or Dare and A League of Their Own but what about Dick Tracy? This movie has stunning visuals, amazing actors (Warren Beatty, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman) and a great soundtrack. Our Diva plays one of the main characters, a gorgeous femme fatale named Breathless Mahoney who secretly plans to own The City.
Madonna's acting is also really good in this movie.
Drowned World Tour
One word: visuals.
This is possibly Madonna's most theatrical show and it's always overshadowed by other tours, despite having been an event at the time (in 2001, it was Madonna's first tour in 8 years).
The setlist consists in songs mostly from Music and Ray of Light but some classics like La Isla Bonita and Holiday are performed.
Madonna also showcases some powerful vocals here.
"Ray of Light" videos
What about a journey through our Diva's excellent music videos from 1998?
Frozen, Ray of Light, Drowned World, The Power of Good-Bye and Nothing Really Matters easily represent Madonna's greatest run ever when it comes to videos.
Sit down and enjoy this marathon (and more views for these masterpieces as well, yay!).
Interviews
(Madonna with Howard Stern in 2015)
Last but not least I would like to recommend some great interviews to watch or listen to.
Of course I am going to start from the wonderful interviews with Howard Stern and Larry Flick, both from 2015. Another great suggestion from the same year is the interview for Complex Magazine.
Entering "legendary" territory we have Dinner With Madonna, Nightline and Good Morning America, all from 1991.
From 1998, I'd suggest the MTV Ultrasound episode dedicated to Ray of Light, which Madonna uploaded on her own YouTube channel two years ago.
Going back to the 1980's I'd suggest the radio interview with Simon Bates, from 1986 and the one with Jane Pauley, from 1987.
I hope you liked my suggestions guys!
Let's all stay safe at home.
Love you all!
Let your body move to the music.
